Over time, if your master cylinder leaks (which throughout the years is a common occurrence) then the fluid will sit in the box and deteriorate the paint. Also, if the box has been sitting quite some time, then they can rust up and be difficult to spruce up when it comes time to change the master. Don't forget to get a new pedal pivot bolt
